Where It All Began — In Spiti Valley!
After finishing my studies, I was still figuring things out, caught between questions and quiet longings. Climbing came into my life like a spark. It didn’t just give me direction, it gave me rhythm. Obsession. Joy. And eventually, a way to make a life around it—guiding treks, leading expeditions, and finding peace in the mountains.
That’s how I ended up in Spiti, a wild, beautiful place that soon became home. I spent two years there, chasing summits and solitude, but always looking for rock to climb. One day, rope over my shoulder and plans in my head, I stopped by a small café before heading out.
And that’s where I met him, the other Nikhil. Curly hair, curious eyes. “Are you going climbing?” he asked.
That question was the start of everything.
In a place where climbers were rare, it felt like the mountains had brought us together. We started climbing side by side, sharing rope, stories, silence, and stoke. Climbing became our common language. It was healing. It was play. It was home.
From those raw Spiti days, Sama Climbing was born. A way to keep that mountain spirit alive. A way to offer climbing to more people, while staying rooted in where we began.
Even our boards carry the names of Spiti’s villages—a quiet tribute to the land that gave us our start.
Full circle, and just getting started.
